In celebration of Black History Month, the Aiken Center for the Arts (ACA) is offering a Sweetgrass Basket Workshop. The workshop will be held on Saturday at the Aiken Center for the Arts. Led by Mount Pleasant instructor Vera Manigault, the class is open to everyone and no experience is necessary.
Sweetgrass baskets are uniquely from the Lowcountry and evolved from basket weaving skills brought to the United States from Africa more than 300 years ago. Manigault’s baskets have been featured in Southern Living and were used in the movie “The Patriot.” More info.
